How about if instead of fuzzy balls they're wine bottle corks like the Aussies dangle from their digger hat brims to keep flies off their faces? That always struck me as a nice cost-effective use of at-hand materials to solve an immediate problem.

Hey! I wear a fedora from time to time. And some Studebakers were stunning - at least the Raymond Loewy designs were, like this '53 coupe.
But I agree pork pie hats look pretty dumb, especially on Gene Hackman as Popeye Doyle in The French Connection. Good movie, though, and great car chase right up there with Bullitt.
