My cultural education has been deficient. Don't know Maus. But looks like something I need to know about.
I'm with Spiegelman, though, about being more taken by humor/satire/cultural skewering than superheroes. I've lost since lost it, but at one time I owned Vol. 1, No. 1, of Bill Gaines's MAD MAGAZINE. Grew up with that mag.
"Remember: Evil exists because good men don't kill the government officials committing it." -- Kurt Hofmann.
"Any government that seeks to disarm the people is one that can and must be resisted through force of arms." -- William Norman Grigg
"The historical reality of the Second Amendment's protection of the right to keep and bear arms is not that it protects the right to shoot deer. It protects the right to shoot tyrants..." -- Andrew Napolitano
It's a two book deal. A graphic novel. It's about Art interviewing his father, a survivor, over a period of years. The Jews are mice, the cats are the Germans...but that's just the hook. The actual true story portrayed is so shocking and gripping you'll have to close the book. It's too much. And then there's the relationship between Art and his father. OY!!
But, it's all true. It's the kind of masterwork all cartoonists wish they could bring to life.
I highly recommend it.
Oh yeah, before I forget...the first issue of Mad goes for around a grand. Higher if the condition is good.
